Two weeks after the Commonwealth Bank shut its Pendle Hill branch, the company has left one of three ATMs available to use.
The bank shut on September 13 after the bank cited a 40 per cent drop in customer transactions at the branch over the past five years.
The Parramatta Advertiser reported the outrage from the community including former mayor Greg Cummings, who blasted the bank for abandoning the community despite posting healthy profits.
“When you consider the money the CBA turns over, it must be one of the most wealthy banks in the world,’’ he said.
“They must be caring about shareholders.”
Despite plans for all ATMs to be cleared, public backlash could have led the machine to remain.
However a Commonwealth Bank spokeswoman could not confirm how long the machine would remain
“We have converted our branch ATM into a stand-alone ATM and it will remain while we decommission the site,’’ she said.
“Over time we make changes to our network to reflect customer preferences, including the way they choose to bank with us.
“Sometimes this involves opening up new services, reducing or removing services, or investing in existing facilities, like ATMs.”
