Fried chicken, sneakers and champagne — it is the unusual combination that has become synonymous with one word: Butter.

The restaurant slash retail space recently opened its second store in Parramatta, following the success of its original in Surry Hills.

Co-owner and chef Julian Cincotta described Butter as “the first of its kind hybrid fried chicken shop”.

“We combine hip hop, champagne and sneaker culture with our food … It’s where street meets luxury, and a conceptual restaurant where all the these juxtaposed elements come together,” he said.

The two-storey space on Marsden St — a much larger venue than the Surry Hills original — has a retail section upstairs, where a curated selection of sneakers and streetwear neatly line racks and shelves.

“We’re continuously looking to stock international brands with a real story behind them and that have earned a reputation for themselves in their communities,” Cincotta said.

“Currently we have ‘Filling Pieces’ from Amsterdam, ‘Carrots’ by Anwar from LA and ‘Carlo Carlo’ from Hong Kong.

“These designers have all been in the streetwear game from a long time and are considered OG names.”

Downstairs is where the fried chicken and champagne come together in delicious harmony.

“We do one thing (fried chicken) and we do it well,” Cincotta said.

They certainly do — from the fried chicken sandwiches to the boxes filled with finger-licking chicken pieces, Butter knows fried chicken.

Cincotta, who grew up in and has worked in the western suburbs, said a second store in Sydney’s second largest CBD “made sense”.

“Parramatta has been growing and changing for many years,” he said.

“We have had a lot of people from the area come to our Surry Hills venue that we have gotten to know.”

Cincotta said the reception from customers since they opened last month had been “epic”.

“We’ve had an exceptional interest from day one and we are very grateful for the support we have received from Parramatta locals,” he said.
