Omicron Covid-19: Sydney, Central Coast exposure sites revealed

As more cases of the new Covid strain emerges, a growing list of Sydney pubs have been added to the list of exposure sites. Follow our rolling coverage.

Australians have 'less of an appetite' for Covid restrictions despite Omicron strain

The Albion Hotel at Parramatta and Golden Sheaf at Double Bay have been added to the list of Covid exposure sites on Friday when NSW recorded 516 new Covid cases.

There are 42 people who tested positive to Omicron but no cases with the new variant were recorded overnight.

There are 158 Covid patients in hospital with 24 people in intensive care and nine whom require ventilation.

NSW Health has raised concerns about the increased transmission in larger venues such as pubs and clubs following recent outbreaks at the Golden Sheaf at Double Bay, the Oxford Tavern at Petersham and Parramatta’s Albion Hotel, where a positive case visited the George St venue on Sunday December 5 from 4.30pm until close.

An infected person visited the Golden Sheaf at New South Head Rd, Double Bay, on Saturday November 20 from 2.30pm to 9pm and Saturday November 27 from 9.15pm to 1.15am.

Anyone who visited the Golden Sheaf or Albion is a casual contact and must get tested.

However, anyone who visited the Oxford Tavern at New Canterbury Rd, Petersham, on Tuesday November 30 from 4pm to 10.30pm is a close contact.

“The transmission in these types of settings is contributing to the increase in cases in NSW and we urge people not to attend social functions if they have any symptoms, even if mild,’’ NSW Health said.

“NSW Health also strongly encourages people to wear a mask in situations where you cannot physically distance, especially indoors.’’

A student at Regents Park Christian School has been infected with the Omicron Covid variant, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to nine.

NSW Health on Friday said the school had been dismissed for the year and contract tracing and investigations were under way.

NSW Health is concerned the virus may have been acquired in the community because the case has no overseas travel history or links to people with overseas travel history.
