Eden Gardens at Macquarie Park is about to expand but not with extra aisles of plants — instead, a $141 million office block and multi-deck carpark overlooking Lane Cove National Park are slated for the site.
A state government planning panel is assessing plans for an 18-storey commercial block and a four-level, 222-space carpark above the existing carpark fronting Lane Cove Rd.
The new carpark building will house a ground floor nursery, loading docks and a climbing wall and “bouldering facility” leading to a rooftop health and fitness zone.
The tower will partly be used for Eden Gardens administration employees.
Foodies who like a nosh while getting a nature fix will enjoy the new 1328sq m restaurant and cafe with a terrace overlooking the garden and national park, while more formal events will be catered for in a 995sq m function space.
Eden Gardens managing director Simon Ainsworth said Eden was an island site connected to nature but also a business park.
“I think we need to alter the perception of what can and should be offered,’’ he said.
“Our new Eden builds on our retail, garden and community heritage by adding vibrant facilities for activity and health, engaging in smart and innovative designs to create an exciting new precinct for office, health, hospitality and recreation.’’
Urban Design, which prepared a report for architects Realm Studios, said the development would be a “mid-rise wondrous workplace that distinguishes it from any other in Macquarie Park”.
“It is the aspiration to create a unique destination that integrates workspace, hospitality, public recreation, event venue, community engagement and wellbeing,’’ the report said.
The development application will go on public exhibition from April 15 to May 7.
