The NSW Small Business Commission will join the growing workforce in Parramatta from next year, relocating from its Sydney CBD location.
The move is part of the State Government’s Decade of Decentralisation policy — a commitment to reduce government office space in central Sydney by at least 100,000sq m by 2021.
An exact address has yet to be chosen for the Parramatta headquarters.
Finance and Small Business Minister Damien Tudehope said Parramatta was a vibrant
city and a hub of economic activity.
“Parramatta is undergoing a transformation with businesses, big and small, recognising its
huge potential and moving into the CBD,’’ he said.
“This relocation is part of the NSW Government’s increasing investment in western Sydney
and our plan to create thousands of additional jobs in Parramatta.’’
The commission will join other agencies such as the education, planning, industry and environment, and customer service departments to call Parramatta home.
Acting Small Business Commissioner Stephen Brady welcomed the move to Parramatta because of its significant growth area for small business.
“The commissioner and team will continue to advocate for all small businesses and provide
on-the-ground support for those in need wherever they are in the state,’’ he said.
Parramatta state Liberal MP Geoff Lee said Parramatta was the geographical centre of Sydney
and the heartland of small business.
“Parramatta is the place to do business and with the Sydney Metro West, Parramatta Light
Rail, Powerhouse Museum and the new Western Sydney Stadium, there is nothing stopping
Parramatta now,” he said.
The NSW Small Business Commission provides strategic advice, free to low cost mediation
and support to tens of thousands of small businesses each year.
Western Sydney Business Chamber executive director David Borger welcomed the commission’s move to Parramatta.
“Western Sydney is the capital of small business in NSW,’’ he said.
“We have over 150,000 businesses, many of which are family owned and operated. It’s fantastic that the champion of small business will be located in the heart of Sydney in Parramatta.’’
