WESTMEAD’s Health and Innovation Precinct is set to benefit from a major budget win, with $188 million secured for the redevelopment of Westmead Hospital.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet revealed stage one of the plans had secured funding in the Budget this week, as part of a greater plan to redevelop the hospital precinct, expected to come in at a total cost of $765 million.

Mr Perrottet said the Budget recognised the need for quality, local health facilities to serve a growing population in Sydney’s West.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead has also secured $95 million for a master planned redevelopment, as well as part of an $8 billion health infrastructure investment fund to help map out stage two plans for the hospital, according to NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet.

“Not only are metropolitan and regional communities all over NSW benefiting from new and improved emergency departments, more inpatient wards and operating theatres and better intensive cares services, but the health construction boom is bringing jobs to towns across the state,” Mr Perrottet said.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the record level of funding will “ensure nurses, doctors and clinicians can continue to provide the best possible care, supported by the most modern equipment in the newest facilities”.

Westmead Hospital’s carpark will also receive a complete overhaul, with $72.3 million dedicated to its redevelopment.

PARRAMATTA POLICE STATION TO BE UPGRADED

PARRAMATTA Police station will be upgraded as part of a $98 million emergency services investment.

The redevelopment, which will take place over the next four years, will see the station transformed as part of a Multipurpose Police Station Program set out by the State Government.

Police Minister Troy Grant said the multimillion-dollar investment will boost NSW Police Force’s strong record of fighting crime and improving community safety.

“This budget will ensure Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has the flexibility and resources required to address and reduce crime,” Mr Grant said.

Plans for Westmead Primary School have been given the tick of approval, while the new Sydney Olympic Park High School will also commence construction over the next year.

The Budget also provided certainty for continued work at Arthur Phillip High, Parramatta Public, as well as ongoing upgrades at Parramatta West Public School and Carlingford Public School.
