A 43-year-old man has been arrested and taken to hospital after he barricaded himself inside a house during a police operation in western Sydney.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said officers responded to reports a man was armed with a weapon – possibly a firearm – on Martha Ave, Northmead, about 11.50am on Thursday.
However, police later confirmed no weapons were used and the incident was related to mental health.
Officers reportedly surrounded the house and began negotiating with a person while nearby residents were told they could not return to their homes after other streets in the neighbourhood were blocked.
The tactical operations unit was on scene along with specialist paramedics.
“A man later exited the house without incident,’’ the NSW Police spokeswoman said.
“No injuries were reported. The man was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.’’
No charges have yet been laid.
