New trial date set for alleged Merrylands West street racers
Two men who allegedly raced each other on a western Sydney highway before a collision with the car of a young woman will go to trial more than two years after her death.

A trial for alleged street racers, who were charged after a car collided with a young woman at Merrylands West in 2020, has been pushed back to 2023.
Claire Georgey, 22, died a week after Mohammed Abdulmunim Saleh’s Nissan Skyline sports car and her southbound Subaru Forester wagon collided at the intersection of the Cumberland Highway and Bruce St on September 7 at 10.30pm.
Jim Spiros Malamas, 45, was allegedly behind the wheel of another car racing with Mr Saleh.
The 10-day trial was initially supposed to begin on September 26 this year at Parramatta District Court but Mr Malamas’s trial is now due to start on January 16 and Mr Saleh is listed for trial on August 28 — just weeks shy of the third anniversary of the crash and Miss Georgey’s subsequent death on September 14, 2020.
The gregarious former Merrylands High School student died in Westmead Hospital after succumbing to her injuries.
Mr Malamas, of Greystanes, has pleaded not guilty to eight offences including aid and/or abet an offence – aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death (speed greater than 45km/h); aid and/or abet an offence – aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm (more than 5 km/h over limit) and organise, promote street racing.
Mr Saleh, 32, was charged with seven offences and pleaded not guilty to aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death – speed 45km/h; aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm 45 km/h over limit, dangerous driving occasioning death-drive speed dangerous and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm-drive speed dangerous.
He has not entered pleas for organise, promote race between vehicles; negligent driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The two men remain on bail and each of their trials is expected to run
Miss Georgey was remembered fondly for being a “beautiful ray of light” whose passions included following the Parramatta Eels and travelling.
