ALMOST $200 million worth of development has been approved for the Wentworth Point Precinct, including a new marina, over water rowing club and a 364 apartments complex.
The three development applications were signed off by the Sydney West Central Joint Regional Planning Panel last week, in a meeting that issued a tick of approval to continue the revitalisation of the former industrial precinct.
Four residential towers ranging from three to 25 storeys in height and more than 6000sq m of open space will be constructed at 14-16 Hill Rd, Sydney Olympic Park.
The project is worth more than $143 million and will be located just metres from a new marina, overwater rowing facility, gym and restaurant, proposed by Roads and Maritime Services.
An RMS spokesman at Tuesday’s meeting said the department had been working with Parramatta Council and The NSW Environmental Protection Authority for several years to produce a $32 million development application for a 63 vessel wet berth dock and 228 boat storage area.
“The proposed marina at Wentworth Point is a key component to not only meeting existing and identified future demands from the boating community but also to the success of the overall Wentworth Point project by delivering a vibrant mixed-use community in a quality public domain,” the application said.
A $16 million plan for a licenced rowing club alongside the marina was also approved last week and is set to include a cafe, restaurant, gym, boat launching ramp and pontoon.
Regional panel chairman Paul Mitchell raised concerns around water pollution being stirred up by boat propellers on Parramatta River and ensuring free parking was provided to boaters and rowers using the facility.
