Merrylands: Mahdy Elwdah fronts court, allegedly attempted to share child abuse material online

A man who allegedly engaged in ‘sexually explicit conversations’ about acts he wished to perform on a girl aged under 10 has fronted court.

A Merrylands man who police allege engaged in “sexually explicit conversations” about acts he wished to perform on a child has fronted court for the first time since he was granted bail.

Sex Crimes Squad Child Exploitation Internet Unit detectives arrested Mahdy Hasn Elwdah in October after an investigation into the alleged online procurement of a child.

During September and October, investigators began engaging online with Mr Elwdah and allege he believed he was speaking with the mother of a 10-year-old girl.

Police will allege he engaged in sexually explicit conversations about acts he wished to perform on the girl and he attempted to share child abuse material online.

Detectives arrested Mr Elwdah just after 6.30am on October 12.

He was charged with use carriage service to groom person intent to procure for sexual activity person aged under 18 and use carriage service to transmit/publish/promote child abuse.

On Wednesday, Mr Elwdah appeared with his lawyer at Fairfield Court, which heard that the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions would look after the matter, which was adjourned to January 18.
