A Western Sydney mother is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars in luxury bags, jewellery and personal documents during a brazen home invasion on broad daylight.
Lisa Bovington, 30, represented herself as she faced Parramatta Local Court on Saturday via audiovisual link to apply for bail.
Bovington is charged with one count of aggravated break and enter in company and stealing items valued at less than or equal to $60,000.
She is yet to enter a plea on the charge.
Court documents allege Bovington, in the company of two other people, broke into a West Ryde home at about 11.40am on December 6.
Police allege Bovington and two unnamed co-accused arrived at the West Ryde home in a bright orange RAM four-wheel drive.
Magistrate Tony Murray, reading the allegations from police documents, one of the residents of the house had been home alone at the time of the alleged offence when he heard some “unusual” sounds before loud knocking at his front door.
The man peeked through the front window and allegedly saw one unnamed co-accused male with his back to the door.
Magistrate Murray said the man immediately escaped through the back of the house while on the phone with triple 0.
Bovington and the co-accused allegedly broke into the house through the front window and “ransacked” the home, Magistrate Murray said, stealing four bags, one of which was by luxe brand Oroton.
Bovington and the co-accused allegedly stuffed the bags with miscellaneous stolen items, including jewellery, and four Australian passports.
Police officers connected to the Ryde Police Command arrived at the scene a short time later.
Upon arrival, police allege the driver of the orange RAM revved the vehicle, honking the horn loudly, before ramming into the front of the fully marked police car and driving away.
Magistrate Murray said no officers were in the vehicle at the time.
Bovington was arrested while allegedly attempting to flee the scene but the co-accused male escaped on foot.
Police seized the bags and charged Bovington at Gladesville Police Station.
On Saturday Bovington told the court that while she understood the alleged offending was serious, it had been a “long time” since her last offence.
Bovington said if she was let out on bail she could pay surety, report daily to a police station and comply with a strict curfew.
A police prosecutor told the court Bovington had a long history of criminal offences, previously broken intensive correction orders, and had been on a correction order at the time of the offending.
Magistrate Murray refused bail saying her “criminal associations”, previous failures to appear and risk of reoffending demanded she remain behind bars until her next court appearance.
Bovington will face Burwood local court on Monday, December 9 for mention.
