John Wearn Reserve in Carlingford is set for $3.1 million transformation which will include new skate and dog parks.

Parramatta Council’s upgrade, part of the North Rocks Park Precinct Masterplan, will also see a new stage with amphitheatre seating put in place, as well as a multi-use court (catering for basketball, netball and futsal), fitness station, barbecue facilities and carpark.

“The new and improved facilities and amenities at John Wearn Reserve will mean there’s something for everyone — from children, parents, skateboarders and scooter riders to sports teams,” Parramatta Lord Mayor Andrew Wilson said.

“Council has consulted widely to ensure this project delivers the best possible outdoor facilities to the local community.”

North Rocks Liberal ward councillor Andrew Jefferies said it was a “brilliant outcome” for local residents.

“On completion, the new John Wearn Reserve will look unrecognisable from its present state and I couldn’t be prouder to have pushed to ensure its delivery,” he said.

“Council needs to continue its commitment to deliver upgrades for residents right across our local government area and not simply be focused on the CBD.”

Under the masterplan, improvements to North Rocks Park will also be made, including new lighting. This is scheduled for completion in July.

The whole revamp is expected to be completed later this year.

Meanwhile, council has completed a $400,000 upgrade of the North Rocks Child Care Centre’s playground.

The works included new shade structures, embankment slide, softfall rubber, a nature playing area with Australia-themed sculptures, a vegetable garden and new retaining walls.
