Images of Wentworthville swimming pools released
After the closure of two swimming pools in the Parramatta area in recent years, excitement is building for an aquatic centre to reopen.

Images of how Wentworthville swimming pools will look after its $8.8 million revamp have been released a year ahead of its completion.
The pools will feature a new children’s splash playground alongside the 50m pool, a learn-to-swim pool, cafe and change rooms for recreational and competitive swimmers.
A lift will also be installed to allow people with disabilities to use the main
pool.
The 54-year-old Dunmore St pool closed for a makeover in March and is due to be rebuilt by
December 2020.
Guildford pools will remain open until February and reopen in May 2021 after its revamp.
Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou said it was finalising contract negotiations with Omnistruct Building, its preferred tenderer, for the Wentworthville project.
“Demolition works at the site are complete and the site is ready for construction work
to begin.
“I know this new pool is eagerly awaited by recreational and competitive swimmers in
our community.
“We hope to have the pool completed in time for next summer.”
In 2011, Wentworthville and Guildford pools were on the chopping block but a four-year community campaign proved successful.
Parramatta Pools were demolished in 2017 to make way for Bankwest Stadium.
In September, the State Government and Parramatta Council announced it would foot the $77 million bill to build the pool but it would not be completed until 2023, six years after the O’Connell St pools were bulldozed.
