Hilton Hotel Parramatta delayed by coronavirus, set to open in 2024
Hotels are popping up across western Sydney but luxury seekers will have to wait longer to indulge in five-star treatment after the coronavirus has delayed the opening of a major hospitality chain.

Work on the 245-room Hilton Hotel at Parramatta was scheduled to start this month but indulging in five-star luxury is being delayed because of the coronavirus.
Demolition of the building at the corner of Marsden and Macquarie streets has now been pushed back to the last quarter of 2021 but a design competition for the 29-storey hotel is due to start next month, albeit 12 months behind schedule.
The competition has been shortened to one stage with three teams of local and overseas architects vying to put their creative stamp on what Ledrae Hotels spokesman described as what would be an “iconic structure, a global landmark for the CBD”.
Ledrae Hotels has owned the existing building for 25 years.
The hotel will feature a ballroom, hospitality school, signature restaurants, bar, health and fitness centre, commercial offices and create 90 full time positions and 120 casual or part time workers.
It is due to be completed mid 2024, pushing its initial completion date back by a year.
The NSW Planning Department will determine the Hilton planning proposal.
A department spokeswoman said Parramatta Council was working with the applicant to finalise a local voluntary planning agreement before it made a final decision on the proposal.
A development application for the hotel has not yet been lodged.
Several hotels are planned for the burgeoning Parramatta CBD including the 239-room Holiday Inn Express at Smith ST, the 55-storey QT at Phillip St, one at Airds St and another planned at the Peter Wynn’s Score site at Church St.
