Plans for the Parramatta Hilton are advancing, with a competition to design a plush five-star hotel poised to start.

Parramatta Council recently ticked-off plans to send the application for the hotel to the Planning Department after the concept was first considered in 2016.

The 29-storey luxury digs at the corner of Macquarie and Marsden streets will comprise 245 rooms, a ballroom, sky lounge and a hotel management school.

However, the public will have to wait to catch a glimpse of the CBD hotel’s facade and interiors, with the design competition to start on October 1 and conclude December 12.

The hotel, to be built where a seven-storey building stands, is expected to generate 90 full time positions and 120 casual or part time workers.

The drawcard has received strong support from the council, which recently implemented controls that state the Hilton would be used purely as a hotel and not serviced apartments.

The hotel will also be set back 6m from other buildings to accommodate the extra pedestrian flow over 24 hours.

Cr Donna Davis welcomed the hotel.

“We originally had this planning proposal presented to us with a bit of a dream and I think that councillors were very excited about the prospect of having a hotel on this site, and we still are very excited, because as a growing city with entertainment precincts that we’re trying to build our economy, we really do need to have hotels in our city …’’ she said.

“We are a progressive council, we are about looking to the future but we look to the future and we look to our business enterprises knowing that we need to be smart about it …’’

The State Government’s Planning Department will now assess the planning proposal.
