Halloween tips and looks with Granville TAFE

Make-up tutorial for an Aussie Halloween

MAKE-UP artist Kathy Criniti from Granville TAFE has seen an explosion in the number of Halloween parties in the west.

“I always associated Halloween with America, but it’s really building here,” Mrs Criniti said.

“I have 15 bookings for the one day this year, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Mrs Criniti took to her class at the Granville campus to give some tips and tricks for the best looks this spooky season.

“My biggest tip is to always keep it pretty,” Mrs Criniti said.

“Anything you can do with a smoky eye or an ombre lip will always be pretty and you can add that Halloween touch to it at the end.”

Tips and treats

Keep it cute
Less is more for Aussies this Halloween. No blood or guts necessary. Mrs Criniti said there is a difference between the US and Sydney, don't feel you need to be the straight out of the Walking Dead.
Smoky Eyes
The foundation for any makeup look should be a perfect smoky eye. Get that right and you have a look that can go from day to night time parties.
Tap it up
Perfect lines with eyeliner is hard. It is an impossible task to get noth eyes even and has caused too many rage quits to count. Mrs Criniti's tip is tape. Place the tap and draw your line, correct any foundation that smudges under, and voila, you've got a line.
Lips to kill
Be bold with lips. Dark reds, ombres and blacks go well with any Halloween look.
Glitter glitter glitter
Always add glitter. It makes everything better; in makeup and in life.

Jodie Lee Kemp, a student in the class, volunteered as a guinea pig for the Halloween look.

“I didn’t even think it was a thing,” Ms Kemp said.

“I’ve never done anything for it before.”

Mrs Criniti said if you are preparing Halloween make-up this year it was easy to follow the latest trends.

“Smoky eyes, should be the number one, add fluffy lashes and glitter to everything. If you can include glitter on something do it,” she said.

She said the key for Australian and western Sydney Halloween parties is to “keep it cute”.

“I don’t think you’ll see many zombies or open wounds or gross stuff, not here anyway,” she said.
