Guildford Swim Centre’s $18m transformation approved

Guildford swimmers will have to wait at least one more summer before taking a dip at their pool but the wait for the redeveloped facility is closer after the $18m redevelopment received the final seal of approval.
A state government Sydney planning panel recently gave the official green light for the redeveloped Guildford Swim Centre to go ahead.
The drawcard will include an outdoor 25m pool, an indoor 25m program and lane pool, change rooms and a multipurpose space.
The Tamplin Rd aquatic centre will deliver services and programs including learn-to-swim classes, recreational swimming, rehabilitation and gentle exercise.
The centre closed on June 30 and has since been demolished to make way for the new pools.
The construction tender was published on January 21 and will close in March for assessment. Construction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
The facility will reopen five years after Wentworthville Memorial Swim Centre’s $12.2m revamp was completed in 2021.
Wenty pools are larger than Guildford with an upgraded Olympic-sized pool, a lift for people with disabilities, a learn-to-swim pool, a splash pad, children’s playground, private change rooms and a kiosk.
At its Wednesday night meeting, Cumberland Council unanimously voted to allow free entry into its aquatic centres, including Granville, Wentworthville and Merrylands, on Australia Day.
