Guildford and Ryde: Pair charged over alleged $45,000 insurance fraud

A man and woman who allegedly staged a crash between two cars at Ryde, which led to the lodgement fraudulent claims worth $45,000, have been charged.

Two charged over alleged CTP insurance attempted fraud

A man and a woman from Guildford and Ryde have been charged over allegedly attempting to defraud the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance scheme.

After recommendations of the CTP Task Force, Financial Crimes Squad detectives formed Strike Force Ravens to investigate syndicates attempting to defraud the CTP insurance scheme.

As part of their ongoing inquiries, strike force detectives arrested a 65-year-old woman at a home in Ryde on Tuesday, December 3, about 7am.

Shortly after, detectives stopped a car on Bury Rd, Guildford, and arrested the driver, a 34-year-old man.

They were taken to local police stations and charged with attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

The woman was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday January 14, 2020.

Police will allege in court that the man and the woman were involved in staging a crash between two cars at Ryde on Saturday May 19, 2018, resulting in the lodgement of fraudulent CTP claims worth $45,000.

The CTP Task Force was a NSW Government initiative co-ordinated by the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA), involving representatives from various government agencies and legal, health, and insurance sectors.
