Guardrail installed at Bettington Rd, Oatlands
A safety barrier has been installed at the site where four children lost their lives at the hands of an alleged drunk driver just over a month ago.

A guardrail has been installed at the Oatlands site where the Abdallah children and their cousin were killed on February 1.
Parramatta Council installed the barrier along the section of Bettington Rd where siblings Antony, Angelina and Sienna Abdallah, and their cousin Veronique Sakr, were killed by alleged drunk driver Samuel Davidson as they were walking to buy ice cream
Parramatta Lord Mayor Bob Dwyer said the community was still reeling from the loss of the children.
“The guardrail is the first of the measures that council is implementing to address community concerns about pedestrian safety along Bettington Rd following this tragic incident,’’ he said.
The council resolved last month to install the guardrail, as well as a roundabout at the intersection of York and Bettington roads.
Community consultation on the roundabout has started and the matter will be considered at the next Parramatta traffic committee meeting at the end of March.
“While the road condition was not identified by authorities as a factor, council has listened to the local community,” Cr Dwyer said.
The council is also exploring options for a memorial with the children’s families.
Parramatta councillor Pierre Esber also wrote to Parramatta state Liberal MP Geoff Lee to resquest a speed camera along Bettington Rd.
