A former Hills Shire mayor has been charged with a historical domestic violence offence, dating back to his time at Parramatta Council.

Andrew Jefferies, 47, was charged on October 9 with domestic violence-related common assault over an alleged incident on September 11, 2016.

He did not personally appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday, when a town agent lawyer indicated he was likely to plead not guilty.

Jefferies was elected a Hills Shire councillor in 2008 and served for eight years, including a 12-month stint as mayor in 2014 and 2015.

He resigned in July 2016 to join an advisory committee for Parramatta Council, to which he was elected as a councillor the following year.

According to his LinkedIn profile, deleted after this masthead contacted Jefferies for comment, he became a director of the Association of Australian Independent Cementitious Suppliers in November 2023.

Jefferies’ case is expected back in court on December 10.

When contacted on Tuesday afternoon, Jefferies said he could not comment on the case.
