Fadi Zraika, Zackaria Zreika sentenced over roles in drug syndicate out of Granville safe house

A young man was supposed to marry his partner the day he got arrested for taking part in an alleged dial-a-dealer drug syndicate. See their fate in court.

Two men who were busted for their part in an alleged cocaine enterprise across Sydney’s west will soon taste freedom – a result that prompted emotional scenes from their families in a courtroom where they were sentenced.

Fadi Zraika, 22, and Zackaria Zreika, 21, faced Parramatta District Court in the dock on Wednesday, more than a year since police arrested them after investigating an alleged syndicate operating out of a Granville safe house.

Zraika, of South Granville, pleaded guilty to taking part in supplying a prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and participating in a criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Chester Hill’s Zreika – who will be released from prison immediately – pleaded guilty to taking part in supplying a prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and dealing with property proceeds of crime (less than $100,000).

Using intercepted phone calls and covert surveillance, police tracked the pair, who have been in custody since last May, with 2kg of cocaine.

Fellow alleged member Khaled Zreika leased the Blaxcell St safe house to the group, where recordings showed Fadi Zraika and Zackaria Zreika scooping cocaine from a large plastic container into a silver mixing bowl and weighing it.

Zraika – a former tree lopper who works as a sweeper in jail – was also caught telling fellow alleged member Asaad Alahmad not to chastise Abraham “Ibby” Zreika.

“The offender was recorded saying “you can’t hit Ibby, if anything he is doing something good, they’re all being lazy c--nts, they don’t wanna do the phone and he took it.’’

Zraika told other members of the group: “You’ve got to burn that thing (the safe house) down over there.”

Crown prosecutor Thomas Buckingham told the court: “Fadi was far more aware of the nature and scope of the enterprise (than Zreika).

Zraika was also caught using a sophisticated money counting machine.

The court heard there was no evidence the pair sold the drugs.

Zreiker was caught with $9950 in his bedroom wardrobe but there was no evidence it was linked with the syndicate.

Judge Stephen Hanley said despite Zreiker’s one-off role “he did it with enthusiasm” but had cognitive disabilities that meant others took advantage of him.

The court heard Zraika was going to have an Islamic wedding with his partner the day he was arrested.

He was convicted and sentenced to three years in jail with a non-parole period of 18 months, meaning he is eligible for release on November 23.

Zreika was sentenced to a seven-month intensive correction order, which allows him to serve his sentence in the community, and must undertake 100 hours of community service.

A 25 per cent discount off both men’s sentences after they pleaded guilty.

Their families embraced and some cried when they learned the result.

Amir Zreika was sentenced to an 18-month community correction order to expire on September 28, 2024, for supplying phohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, taking part in supplying a prohibited drug (small quantity) and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.

Abraham Zreika, Jalal El-Jajie and Mouhammad Zraika will be sentenced in November, while Ahmed Karim, Asaad Alahmad and Trent Jeske face sentencing in February.

Khodar Hamad and Khaled Zreika are fighting charges and remain before the courts.
