The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is asking the public for help to find a large drone that was flying close to aircraft over Granville and North Parramatta.

Pilots spotted a blue 1m by 1m sized drone as their plane was approaching Sydney Airport for landing on July 20 between 2pm and 3pm.

The drone, possibly a quadcopter type, was flying about 4000 feet (1219m) in the air.

A CASA spokesman said drones were restricted from flying higher than 120m.

“On the basis of the credible reports, CASA is concerned the drone may be flown again in the area, posing a risk to aircraft operating to Sydney airport and in the area,’’ the spokesman said.

“Drones must not be flown in a way that causes a hazard to an aircraft.”

Anyone with information about this drone being operated in the Granville or North Paramatta area is asked to contact CASA at investigations@casa.gov.au.
