Driver in low-speed pursuit injures police officer

POLICE are on the hunt for a driver who injured an officer and fled the scene following a police pursuit through Parramatta.

POLICE are on the hunt for a driver who injured an officer and fled the scene following a police pursuit through Parramatta.

Just after 8pm on September 13, traffic and highway patrol officers were at the Great Western Highway and Marsden St intersection when they spotted a blue Toyota Yaris disobey a red traffic signal, driving straight through.

Police activated their lights and sirens but the driver refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The low-speed police pursuit saw the Toyota travel down to Church St before stopping in traffic.

Officers attempted to smash the driver’s side window but they accelerated and ran over a police officer’s foot.

The pursuit was stopped due to safety as the Toyota continued along Church St. It was 10 minutes later when police were alerted to a crash at the intersection of Argyle and Marsden streets involving the same Yaris and a Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Yaris escaped and was last seen running towards a nearby shopping centre and has not been located.

The police officer suffer a minor foot injury and the occupants of the Camry were uninjured.
