Dino Juklen wielded a gun, taser at colleague when he was a cop

As a child, a western Sydney man dreamt of joining the police force. That dream came true but he squandered his career when he pointed a gun — and another potentially lethal weapon — at a colleague, as it’s revealed why he did so.

As a child, Dino Juklen dreamt of joining the police force. That dream came true when he joined Parramatta police but he threw it all away when he teased a colleague with a firearm and Taser because it “it makes me feel confident’’.

After starting his career as a fresh-faced rookie in 2017, the Blacktown man worked as a general duties policeman for two years before finding himself on the wrong side of the law when he directed the weapons at Probationary Constable Zarlasha Baheer three times over two nights last September.

Juklen, who is now a sales representative at Think Real Estate, fronted Parramatta Local Court on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to three counts of being a police officer neglecting to not carry out any lawful order.

Court documents reveal the 24-year-old pulled his firearm from the holster inside the muster room and held it in Constable Baheer’s direction “for a few seconds’’ while they were on duty on September 11.

“His finger was not on the trigger,’’ the papers stated.

“Constable Baheer said ‘That’s not funny, don’t do it again’.’’

He re-holstered the firearm but the next night he pulled out the gun and Taser when his colleague was sitting at the front desk “without justification or without a threat present”.

“He pointed the firearm in the direction of Probationary Constable Baheer for a second or two,’’ the court documents said.

“His finger was not on the trigger.’’

But he was not content to alarm his colleague with just one weapon.

“Immediately after re-holstering the firearm in the front station area Constable Juklen drew his Taser without justification,’’ the documents reveal.

“There was no threat present. He pointed the Taser in the direction of Probationary Constable Baheer for a moment. The Taser was not in active mode at the time.”

Juklen smiled after he put the electroshock weapon away.

“Probationary Constable Baheer asked him why he had done this and Constable Juklen replied ‘It makes me feel confident’.’’

Documents state Juklen was standing a few metres from the officer on each occasion and did not intend to fire the gun or deploy the Taser, nor did the probationary constable believe he would intentionally deploy the Taser firearm.

The court heard he was remorseful and immediately resigned after he was charged instead of waiting to be sacked.

Magistrate Rodney Brender recorded a conviction against Juklen for the offence.

“You had no intention of firing it but clearly that’s a very foolish thing to be doing and cost you your career with the police in NSW.’’
