A western Sydney event planner, who is alleged to have swindled $25,720 from “falsely” organised functions has been granted bail.

Dara Chour, 39 of Cabramatta appeared at Parramatta Local Court via video link, charged with five different counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

Court documents allege on five different occasions Chour obtained large sums of money by “falsely organising variety events and functions” in suburbs across Sydney.

Chour is alleged to have swindled $6300 in May from an event at Yagoona, $7870 from an event held in July at West Pymble, $25000 from an event in August at Villawood, $1800 from an event held in October at Marsden Park and $7,250 from an event in July at Merrylands West.

She was arrested on Thursday night and was placed briefly in remand before receiving bail the next day.

The police prosecutor strongly opposed Chour being bailed, citing the risks of her interfering with evidence or witnesses and failing to appear for court proceedings.

“The prosecution has a very strong case, there are a number of victims and this sort of offending was carefully planned and poses harm to the community,” he said.

A lawyer appearing for Chour successfully argued for her client to get bail, on the condition she only have one mobile phone and does not access social media.

As part of her bail conditions Chour also must hand over her phone and any relevant passcodes to police when prompted, and is not to operate any sole employer businesses.

Dara Chour was granted bail and the matters will return to Parramatta Local Court on January 18.
