Grit made way for glamour as the Parramatta Eels and their partners shone at the Dally M Awards.
Mitchell Moses won halfback of the year while barnstorming winger Maika Sivo claimed the Ken Stephens Medal.
Roosters fullback James Tedesco won the medal for the best NRL player.
It was also a night to sport bling, especially for players’ partners who graced the red carpet in haute couture dresses selected with the help of Dally M stylist Donny Galella.
Jesse Arena, who is the girlfriend of Parramatta skipper Clint Gutherson, opted for a Cassandra Renee Couture sequined frock.
“Donny Galella had picked some beautiful options for me and this gown really stood out,’’ she said.
“Last year I wore a blush pink gown, so this year I went for something totally different.”
Arena described her fashion choices as casual but still classic, and said Instagram and her home on the the northern beaches for influencing her wardrobe selections.
“I love the relaxed vibe of the beaches,’’ she said.
“Less is more — I’m not a huge fan of a lot of make-up, so I like to keep it natural.”
Ahead of the Eels’ campaign exit at the hands of the Melbourne Storm on September 21, the Dally M Awards were much anticipated in the Gutherson household.
“It was disappointing but a huge improvement on last year and we were really looking forward to catching up with our friends at The Dally Ms,’’ Arena said.
“I love getting dressed up and seeing everyone’s red carpet looks, it’s also a great way to celebrate the end of the season.”
While Arena immersed herself in preparing for the event at the Horden Pavilion, Gutherson’s preparation was more low-key.
“He’s not particularly interested in fashion, he did go and choose himself a suit though, without my help!” she said.
