A truck has left its precious load on the side of a major highway in Sydney’s west.
The truck, travelling on the Cumberland Highway at Greystanes, tipped more than 20 boxes of Asahi beer and Johnnie Walker Black Label cartons into the centre of the highway, causing major delays.
The load, which had more than $3000 worth of alcohol recovered, has also sent glass and alcohol across the three lanes of the highway.
Chief Inspector of the traffic and highway patrol, Phillip Brooks said these sorts of load fails can cause serious issues for companies and unsuspecting drivers.
“Our traffic taskforce will be investigating the circumstances that surround this particular load fail, with a view to taking the issue up with the company concerned.
“These issues are common in high flow traffic areas like the Cumberland Highway which is a major freight route.”
The incident occurred at 4.30pm on Monday afternoon during peak traffic times, and was cleared by the highway patrol and roads and maritime workers shortly after.
“There was significant glass and alcohol and a portion recovered and placed on the side of the roadway,” Chief Insp. Brooks said.
“Despite all the packaging and alcohol we were able to clean the area quickly and restore traffic flow.”
Police are currently investigating the load fail.
