Chophouse Parramatta closes on December 21
It must be one of the unluckiest spots to run a restaurant in Parramatta — Jamie Oliver’s trattoria shut there and now Matt Moran’s venture has faced the same fate.

Parramatta restaurant the Chophouse will close on Saturday, December 21, after just 14 months in the CBD.
The restaurant opened with great fanfare last October when it was described as a New York-style steakhouse that had great success in Sydney CBD since 2008.
Solotel co-directors Matt Moran and Bruce Solomon chose the site at the corner of Church and Macquarie streets to expand the steak restaurant, which opened in the same spot Jamie’s Italian Trattoria operated.
Jamie’s restaurant shut its doors in June 2018 after it failed to negotiate its lease contract with landlord Aussie Home Loans.
Solotel Group’s chief executive officer Justine Baker said the success of Chophouse restaurant in the CBD was not repeated in Parramatta.
“Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite panned out as we had planned and now, we think the best way forward for the Chophouse brand is for us to focus on the CBD venue,” Ms Baker said in a statement.
“We love being a part of the Parramatta community and look forward to continuing to
welcome everyone to the Albion Hotel which has been the heart of Parramatta for more
than 30 years.”
Ms Baker said the hospitality group would continue to change with Sydney’s fluctuating
hospitality.
“Over 30 years of experience and serving millions of guests a year across close to 30 different
bars and restaurants has taught us that our industry is one that is constantly changing,’’ she said.
“And we’ll continue to change with it.”
