Apple store encouraged to move into Parramatta to service western Sydney community

COMMUNITY leaders are calling for an Apple store to be set up in Parramatta — one of the state’s biggest retail precincts.

PARRAMATTA is a prime location for an Apple store and community leaders have called for the well-known shop to make its next home in the CBD.

Sydney Business Chamber Western Sydney director David Borger said Parramatta was one of the biggest retail precincts in the state and it made sense to put an Apple store in the suburb.

“The Apple store has become an ornament in big cities. There should be one here. I think Apple is missing an opportunity,” Mr Borger said.

“An additional 10,000 residents will be in Parramatta in the next five years, so that kind of population growth should command the attention of a company like Apple,” he said.

The closest Apple store to Parramatta is Castle Hill — an hour away by bus or 30 minutes by car — and a Penrith store services western Sydney customers — 50 minutes by bus or 35 minutes by car.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for Western Sydney and Castle Hill state Liberal MP Ray Williams says Apple should move into Parramatta.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Western Sydney and Castle Hill MP Ray Williams said he encouraged and welcomed any move by Apple to set up shop in Parramatta.

“Not only would an Apple store in Parramatta be a big win for the community and the residents of western Sydney, but it would undoubtedly be a major win for Apple.

“Apple provides a premium product and by setting up in Parramatta they can capitalise on the forecasted one million extra people in western Sydney by 2030,” Mr Williams said.

“With Parramatta being one of the small-business hearts of western Sydney, Apple would have the opportunity to supply business into the future.

“This would be a win-win for business, customers and Apple.”
