Anthony Bainbridge guilty to drunken rampage at Marsden and Macquarie St intersection

A man who went on a drunken rampage at a busy Parramatta intersection jumped on car bonnets before he telling cops to “suck my d***” and urinating at a police station.

A man who went on a drunken rampage at a busy Parramatta intersection brought frightened drivers to a standstill when he jumped on car bonnets, damaging vehicles and told cops to “suck my d***” before urinating at a police station.

Wentworthville man Anthony Bainbridge, 43, pleaded guilty at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday after being charged with assaulting an officer in the executing of duty, resisting an officer in the execution of duty, destroying or damaging property and behaving in an offensive manner near a public place on September 17.

The court heard Bainbridge’s “absolutely disgusting’’ actions saw the unemployed man weave in and out of traffic, punch at moving cars, attempt to strike pedestrians on the footpath and jump on vehicle bonnets while cars waited at traffic lights at the intersection of Marsden and Macquarie streets at 9.20pm.

Court documents reveal: “Whilst standing in the middle of the road multiple vehicles had to slow down to avoid colliding with the accused.

“The accused was also swearing profusely.’’

Bainbridge — who told the court he could not recall a lot of the incident — stormed towards a white Land Rover and swung his backpack at the driver’s side door and at the bonnet, scratching the paintwork.

The driver tried to reverse the new car but was stuck in traffic until the lights turned green.

Bainbridge tried to punch more cars and pedestrians until he was restrained by a passer-by but when police arrived the abuse continued while a sergeant attempted to handcuff him.

Bainbridge yelled out “suck my d***’’ and spat at him, narrowly missing his face.

Three more officers tried to restrain him.

“During this period, he constantly pushed and pulled from police grasp using kicking actions with his legs,’’ police facts tendered to the court state.

“He continued to swear, yelling out ‘F*** you, f*** you’. The accused smelt strongly of intoxicating liquor, his clothes were dishevelled, fly was undone, he had bloodshot eyes, low co-ordination, extremely slurred speech and erratic behaviour.’’

But his wild crime spree was not over and Bainbridge exposed himself and urinated on the floor of the custody dock at Parramatta police station, where a forensic cleaner had to clear the “biological hazard” and unusable until it was cleaned.

Bainbridge told the court he suffers from anxiety and depression, and had no recollection of the incident and “it’s completely out of character’’ for him.

Magistrate Peter Feather slammed Bainbridge’s shocking actions.

“That’s actually appalling and disgusting behaviour — some of the worst behaviour I’ve seen for some time in this court,’’ he said.

Magistrate Feather took into account his lack of offences besides a drug possession charge in 2015 when he was fined and not convicted, and warned him he would go to jail full time if he offended in the next two years.

Bainbridge was convicted, fined a total of $3400 and given a two-year community corrections order.
