The man behind the super successful XS Espresso cafe chain is now planning to open a destination cafe and restaurant in Meadowbank.
Popular cafe business XS Espresso has revealed its plans for a new licensed venue, named Banx Bar and Kitchen, on Bowden Street.
The man behind the hugely successful cafe business, which has recently clocked up 50,000 followers on Instagram, is Roky Gorgees.
The 32-year-old said he’s hoping the new venture would allow his cafe chain to become a “destination” rather than a hype cafe.
“I want it to be a casual dining spot but also accessible to everyone.
“Whether it’s a couple or someone wanting to take parents out to I want it to be easy and accessible with fine food and a good cocktail and wine menu.
Perched on the Meadowbank foreshore, the planned cafe will have a bar and restaurant complete with its own Italian wood-fire just metres from the water.
Mr Gorgees, from Sydney’s west, said the aim was to make the cafe “modular” allowing it to be a more cafe setting in the day and a casual dining restaurant at night.
“We are not just a cafe but a meeting place and hub. I’d want this venue to be really part of the community,” he said.
The menu will be more Mediterranean influenced along with some of cult dining classics such as charcuterie boards and pizzas.
He said he has had his eye around Meadowbank for a while and recently spotted the vacant building.
“It’s a unique looking building with a massive roof and I’d look at it every time I drove past.
“It’s a gorgeous spot immediately across from the water.”
It’s been an incredible journey for the father-of-one who first started with a hole in the wall coffee shop in Parramatta about six years ago.
It was when he devised the monster nutella and doughnut shakes at his second cafe at Wetherill Park that his business took off.
“We sold 900-1000 shakes a day,” he said.
Mr Gorgees now owns 14 cafes with eight more set to open this year.
Banx Bar and Kitchen is proposed to be open from 6pm to 10pm every night.
