Vision Personal Training team takes on Tough Mudder

MANY people would question the sanity of those who willingly throw themselves into a mud pit.

Yet a team of gym goers from Gladesville will do just that, and a lot more, on a trip to the Glenworth Valley in October.

The team from Vision Personal Training Gladesville will compete in the 18km Tough Mudder obstacle course, renowned for its physicality and, at times, unpleasant conditions.

Participants must clamber over walls, swing across monkey bars, and subject themselves to electric shocks and an ice bath.

Tiffany Buckins of Gladesville is one of the team members.

She has decided to take on the course for the first time.

Ms Buckins knows some of her teammates are daunted by the course.

“I don’t personally have any fears associated with the course, but I know some teammates do,” she said.

“There is the fear of heights, dealing with barbed wire and becoming injured. The most challenging part will be the mental strength and having the stamina to pull each other through the course.”

The interior design manager decided that completing Tough Mudder would be a great achievement.

Ms Buckins joined the gym seven months ago and has gained good results.

“When I joined, it wasn’t necessarily to lose weight but to increase lean muscle,” she said.

Ms Buckins has lost 5kg and reduced her body fat by 8 per cent.

However, it’s her improved fitness that has pleased her the most.

“It’s not so much about numbers and results,” she said.

“I’ve never been a runner in my life and being able to run 5km incredibly easily makes me proud.”

Teams that participate in Tough Mudder also raise money for the Soldier On organisation, which supports defence force personnel who have suffered physically or psychologically.
