A Kmart store in Sydney’s north has decided to close its shop front and move to an online store during the coronavirus pandemic.
Kmart at Top Ryde City stopped operating its shopfront from Monday (April 13).
In a post on the shopping centre’s site, it was announced the department store will be closed temporarily from this week.
“From Monday 13 April, Kmart will become an online fulfilment and designated click and collect store.”
A Kmart spokeswoman said they were “exploring new ways” to support customers during the pandemic after increased demand for the store’s online home delivery services.
“We’ve made the decision to temporarily convert our Kmart Top Ryde store into an online fulfilment site; ensuring our Kmart customers and communities have easy access to the products they need and enabling our teams to better support increased demand.”
When asked whether current staff will be stood down, she said the store’s team members will continue to work as part of their “online fulfilment team.”
Kmart has also announced free deliveries on all online orders over $45 to help support customers during this time.
The Kmart store at Top Ryde City Shopping Centre first opened in June 2016.
