Spencer White stands out with unbeaten 123 in Northern District Gee Shield match

A YOUNG Northern Districts cricketer has scored a ton for his team. Spencer White claimed his side’s first and only century of the season defeating the Central Coast in the U/13 Gee Shield.

SCORING a batting century at any age is pretty sweet.

Though not quite Shakespeare, it was still a beautiful sight at Epping’s Somerville Oval on the weekend as Spencer White claimed his side’s first and only century of the season as Northern District’s U/13 Gee Shield side defeated Central Coast on Sunday.

After the visitors set a tough target of 186 through their 50 overs, Northern District needed a strong batting effort if they were to have any shot at coming away with the win.

They looked to be in trouble early however, with a collapse from the top order putting the side at just 3/17 after their first five overs.

Spencer then took to the crease and set about the task of getting his team in front.

It was one of those days where everything went right for Spencer as he proved unshakeable in front of an increasingly desperate Central Coast bowling attack.

He raced out to a quickfire 50 before he really put his foot down.

Spencer smashed 16 fours and a six as his century came and went, ultimately finishing with 123 runs and a five-wicket victory he’s sure to remember for a very long time.

The team’s coach Marc Reicher praised Spencer for his incredible batting display and strong mental toughness.

“A huge congratulations to Spencer on achieving our team’s first century and getting us across the line today,” Mr Reicher said.

”It was a brilliant exhibition of quality batting and just what we needed.”

Finishing the season with three wins from their five matches, Northern District have missed out on a place in the Gee Shield finals for the first time in three years.
