Northern District has thumped Parramatta in the grand final to take out the 2016-17 Western NSW Cricket Carnival.

Held last week at Wade Park in Orange, Northern District dominated with both bat and ball to claim a comfortable 52-run win over their traditional rivals.

“I’m very proud, they’re a great bunch of lads,” said coach Marc Reicher.

“We won a carnival up at Lismore last season and then didn’t have the best representative season this summer but the boys fired up, came down here and got the win.

“Parramatta are an old rival of ours, they’re quite close to us in Sydney.

“They’ve beaten us in a couple of grand finals in recent seasons so it’s nice to get one back on the neighbours.”

Northern District’s dominant performance came despite the side only just sneaking into the grand final on quotient.

“We played poorly on the first day but then we started to play really well later in the week,” Reicher said.

“The facilities were amazing. The kids don’t get the opportunity to play on turf or on grounds like (Wade Park), that’s about as good as North Sydney Oval. It’s great for them, and we need to thank the organisers.”
