Northern District to face Sydney Tigers in second grade grand final rematch

A century by skipper Andrew Harriott saw the Northern District Rangers finish their Sydney first grade cricket season on a winning note over North Sydney at North Sydney Oval on Saturday.

Harriott smashed 120 from 109 balls with 14 fours and three sixes as the Rangers made 8/311 from their 50 overs, before North Sydney were bowled out for 224 in reply.

The Rangers’ second grade team again had to overcome batting yips to beat the Bears at Mark Taylor Oval after bowling North Sydney out for 109.

The minor premiers lost six wickets in a top order collapse before Nic Badings (38 not out) and Nathan Meskell (21 not out) saw Northern District home at 6/110.

The Rangers tuned up for their third grade title defence with a solid win at North Sydney Oval No. 2 after Hamish Green’s 73 propelled Northern District to 9/216 from their 50 overs.

Andrew Harriott’s century helped the Rangers end their season on a high.

North Sydney were bowled out for 142 with Amila Yapagedara (3/29) and Jack Shelley (3/23) taking the bowling honours.

Superb bowling saw the Rangers go into the fourth grade finals with a remarkable win on a difficult wicket at Asquith Oval.

After being bowled out for 108 themselves, a 5/11 burst from Nick Onslow helped the Rangers skittle North Sydney for just 48 in response.

The Rangers start the playoffs with Qualifying Finals in three grades this Saturday and Sunday — all against the Drummoyne based Sydney Tigers.

Second grade play a rematch of last year’s Grand Final at Mark Taylor Oval, third grade meet at Asquith Oval and Fourth Grade clash at Drummoyne Oval.
