The North West Sydney hockey team has cemented a dynasty that surpasses even that of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors by securing their fourth straight Mens Hockey NSW Open State Championship.
Made up of representative players from Norwest Strikers and Ryde Panthers, North West Sydney went through the elite competition undefeated as they steamrolled their way to the final against Metro South West.
Despite a tough contest, North West Sydney ultimately claimed their fourth straight state title 1-0 thanks to a successful penalty corner from Kieran Arthur.
Team member Lee Cormack said North West Sydney’s achievement stems largely from the lengthy Sydney Premier League success of Norwest and Ryde.
“Strikers has had a dominant Premier League side for the past decade appearing in seven of the past 11 Sydney Premier League grand finals. It has very strong appeal for talented players from around NSW,” he said.
“Ryde has been very successful at developing young talented juniors through to their top men’s side.”
Cormack said the team had plenty of work to do before going for five in a row.
“… there was some jovial discussion about winning five in a row, however for now the players will refocus their energy back into their club teams and become fierce local rivals as they bid to take out the top honours in the Sydney Premier League,” he said.
