A strong performance from the middle order has boosted Northern District to a competitive score of 292 in their Belvidere Cup match against Hawkesbury at Mark Taylor Oval.

Still looking for their first win, the home side got off to a positive start with openers Tom Felton and Henry Hunt combining for 77 before Felton was caught and bowled by Hawkesbury’s Arjun Nair.

However the Rangers quickly found themselves facing an uphill battle as a flurry of dismissals suddenly had them at 3/79.

Andrew Harriott kept the Rangers in the fight with 65.

It was left to the middle order duo of captain Andrew Harriott and Jonte Pattison to regain the momentum, and they had little trouble doing just that.

The pair combined for 137 before Harriott was dismissed on 65 after being caught lbw off a ball from Usman Qadir.

Pattison continued to make an impact without his captain, racking up nine boundaries to finish with 79.

A stellar six-wicket effort from Hawkesbury’s Usman Qadir ultimately kept the Rangers from reaching 300 and ensured a competitive innings for when play resumes on Saturday.
