Meadowbank TAFE set for a $154m “world-class” redevelopment
Meadowbank TAFE is set for a major redevelopment where thousands of students will be able to undertake practical training in traditional and new specialist courses.
Meadowbank TAFE is set for a $154 million “world-class” makeover to help train more workers in the critical areas of cybersecurity, energy and tourism.
The NSW government today unveiled plans for the “groundbreaking” redevelopment where 3000 students will be able to undertake practical training in traditional and new specialist courses at the planned Meadowbank Education Precinct, due to open in 2021.
Minister for TAFE NSW Adam Marshall said the new state-of-the-art facilities would be “underpinned by modern technology”.
“This $154 million redevelopment of Meadowbank TAFE will deliver world-class facilities for students to access quality training in a range of areas critical to the NSW economy,” he said.
“(It) will have capacity to deliver training for up to 3000 students at any one time, ensuring our state has the next generation of workers it needs.”
Ryde MP Victor Dominello said the new TAFE would be “nation-leading” and transform his electorate into an education powerhouse.
“The Meadowbank Education Precinct is one of the single largest investments in public education and VET infrastructure in the country, and is being delivered right here in our community,” Mr Dominello said.
“The revitalised Meadowbank TAFE will provide thousands of students with the cutting-edge training they need to secure a job of the future.
“It will also allow students to journey from primary school to high school to TAFE right in one place devoted to education and their future.”
Earlier this year, the government announced Marsden High School will move from West Ryde to a new home at the new-look Meadowbank TAFE site and the former school become a sporting complex.
The new high school will cater for up to 1500 students, double Marsden’s current population. Meadowbank Public will also have its capacity doubled to 1000 students after it moves to the TAFE site.
