A special group of Design and Technology students from Marist Sisters’ College, Woolwich are looking for sponsor support ahead of the 2016 Energy-Breakthrough Project.

The Energy-Breakthrough Project is a nationwide initiative which asks students to think about sustainable transport and designs for society’s future.

It challenges the students to design, engineer and build their own Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) which they then race for 24 hours against other schools from across Australia.

“This project provides our students with a holistic look at what real world designing means,” said the school’s Leader of Governance and Communication, Justin Hodges.

“It brings the outside world into the classroom and allows them the chance to experiment and use different materials, tools and techniques they would normally never get the chance to use.”

The team will be looking to improve upon their results from last year’s challenge, in which they won the Best in Design and Construction Award and finished 14th overall out of the 197 vehicles that finished the race.

“It is programs like these that aid our students to immerse themselves in the world of engineering, design and construction by allowing them to be hands on and break down gender stereotypes,” Mr Hodges said.

The Energy-Breakthrough Project will be held in Victoria from Wednesday to Sunday, November 16-20.
