A man has been caught and charged after fleeing a head-on crash with a police patrol car after a high speed chase in Sydney’s northwest.
A man will appear in court after he was charged over a head-on crash in East Ryde, that left two police officers injured.
Before midnight on Friday officers from the Ryde police area command were patrolling on Lane Cove Rd, Ryde, and attempted to stop a black Holden Commodore.
The Holden Commodore failed to stop, forcing the police into pursuit.
A short time later, the Holden Commodore, heading north, crossed to the opposite side of the road and collided head-on with a police vehicle on Pittwater Rd, in East Ryde.
Two officers were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.
The driver, a 33-year-old male sergeant, suffered a hand injury.
The front seat passenger — a 29-year-old female senior constable — suffered chest and back pain.
The passenger of the Holden Commodore, a man in his 20s, was not injured while the driver fled from the scene.
An investigation was opened into to chase and crash, and about 8.30pm on Sunday, police arrested a 22-year-old man outside a unit block in Cambridge St at Penshurst.
He was taken to St George police station where he was later charged with 12 offences including police pursuit — not stopping, driving furiously, driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period, negligent driving, fail to stop, being in custody of a knife, possessing counterfeit currency and possessing a prohibited drug.
