The wild weather in Sydney has started early in Sydney’s north, with 84mm of rain falling this morning, across the suburbs, trapping at least six drivers.

SES received the flood rescue calls, two of which were in West Ryde and Macquarie Park, where the M2 westbound on-ramp from Lane Cove Rd is closed due to flooding. Drivers are being urged to use the Delhi Rd on-ramp instead, or avoid driving in the deluge.

Ryde and Marsfield are both experiencing power outages.

There has also been reports of flooding on Epping Rd at Whiteside St, as yellow flashing lights slow down drivers and bring many to a complete stop.

North Ryde Library is also closed due to internal water leaks, but Ryde, Gladesville and West Ryde libraries are reamaining open.

The Glen St car park in Eastwood has also been partially closed due to flooding to a depth of 0.6 metres. Approximately 30 parking spots are out of action as a result.

The wild weather has cut power at East Ryde, North Ryde and Marsfield where Ausgrid is responding to an outage affecting 3500 customers.

Police are also urging drivers to avoid the roads. Assistant commissioner Michael Corboy from Traffic and Highway Patrol said the road conditions are some of the worst he has ever seen.

“I am appealing to everyone, motorists and pedestrians alike, to take care,” he said.

“Drivers need to consider reducing their speed to make sure they have enough braking distance for themselves and for the vehicle in front, and to drive to the conditions.

“We can’t stress enough that motorists should never attempt to drive through floodwaters or cross flooded causeways.

Sydney Storm: NSW hit with torrential rain

“Today’s weather will be particularly dangerous for motorcycle riders and cyclists and if they are on the road, they should wear bright-coloured clothing, be seen by other vehicles and share roads safely.

“There’s also the real potential for NSW Police, Ambulance, Fire and Rescue, SES, RFS and the VRA to be roadside with their red and blue lights flashing, so if you see emergency services on scene, drop down to 40km an hour on both sides of the road and pass them safely.”
