KOI opens at Macquarie Centre
KOI Dessert Bar has opened its third venue, bringing its selection of sweet masterpieces to North Ryde.
Santa has come early for North Ryde sweet-tooths.
KOI Dessert Bar, which also has venues at Chippendale and Ryde, opened its third venue at Macquarie Centre on Sunday.
The dessert kings held a pop up at the North Ryde shopping centre earlier this year and it was clear the demand was high for a permanent fixture.
It’s the second sweet venue to arrive at the centre this month, following the opening of the Lindt Chocolate Boutique on November 9.
The dessert bar, run by brothers Ronald, Arnold and Reynold Poernomo, is known for its range of intricate desserts including jars, mousses, tarts and slices.
KOI stands for “Kids of Ike” and is named after the Poernomos’ mum, a chef and integral force in the business who often runs cooking classes at the Ryde kitchen.
Fans eagerly awaited its arrival at Macquarie Centre, snapping up 500 cakes in the first two days of trading.
On Sunday, long queues snaked from the bar as customers lined up to get their hands on KOI’s range of delicate desserts and be one of the first 100 customers who received free Nomtella bon bons.
Reynold Poernomo said the dessert bar’s location, on the Level 3 dining precinct, was the ideal spot for diners to enjoy dessert after dinner at one of the nearby restaurants.
The Macquarie Centre eatery stocks the Koi classics like the intricate “Little Garden” tart and brightly coloured “Mango Yuzu” mousse, and will also have a few exclusive desserts in the near future.
KOI Dessert Bar is open from 9.30am-9pm on weekdays, 9am-9pm on Saturdays and 10am-9pm on Sundays.
