Gordon: Plans to build apartment buildings for retirees on McIntosh St, Werona Ave
A developer has flagged plans to build multiple apartment blocks in a north shore suburb with hopes of inspiring downsizers to sell and move in.
A developer aims to build multiple apartments on the north shore targeting retirees, with hopes of getting downsizers to sell their family homes.
Developer CPDM Pty Ltd have lodged an application to the state government to build 165 apartments at 21, 23 and 25 McIntosh St and 55 Werona Ave, Gordon.
An environment impact statement outlines the plan to build three eight-storey residential buildings which will offer 162 apartments.
The plan states 33 of the apartments will be set aside for affordable housing.
Existing buildings at the site will be demolished, including a swimming pool and tennis court, while plans also include a two level basement carpark with 191 spaces.
The proposal states the key objective to building the apartments is “delivery of housing, including much needed affordable housing to reflect the NSW Government’s priority to increasing housing supply in accessible areas”.
“(This includes) providing high-quality residential development that encourages the ‘downsizers’ market to sell existing family homes and relocate to apartments closer to public transport,” plans state.
“The apartment mix will further diversify housing in the LGA which may be more suitable for the growing number of couples without children, lone person households, and older people.
“Older Ku-ring-gai residents or those planning for retirement years may benefit from a more diverse range of housing options close to supermarkets and pharmacies, as well as good access to public transport, which may benefit them economically and help them to age in place.”
The project is out on public exhibition and residents in the area can head to the NSW Planning Portal to have a look.
