It was the Sydney nursing home which was at the centre of Australia’s first COVID-19 cluster.

Two months on and Dorothy Henderson Lodge is now officially clear of the virus.

NSW Health has told the aged care facility, run by BaptistCare, that Dorothy Henderson Lodge was now free of the virus.

It comes after a staff member first tested positive on March 3 which saw a total of 21 cases at the aged care facility among 16 residents and five staff members.

BaptistCare chief executive Ross Low said the news marked the end of a “significant and sustained” effort from the frontline staff and the team.

“We are grateful to be able to share this good news with our residents and their families and we hope they take comfort in the knowledge that we have done everything that we could to protect those people in our care,” Mr Low said in a statement on Friday.

Mr Low also recognised the death of six residents after they contracted the virus.

“The tragic loss of six residents to this deadly virus will never be forgotten. These residents were a much loved part of our Dorothy Henderson Lodge family and we will continue to feel their loss, with their families,” Mr Low said.

“We remain vigilant in our aged care homes across NSW and ACT as the virus remains active in the community.”
