A new COVID-19 drive-through clinic has opened in Ryde as the state’s health authorities urge people in Sydney’s hotspots to continue getting tested if they have any symptoms.

The swab collection point has opened seven days a week from 8am-4pm at Laverty Pathology Laboratory at 60 Waterloo Road in North Ryde.

To attend, patients will first have to get a pathology request form filled out from their doctor. For those using Telehealth, doctors can download and fill out a digital from Laverty’s website which can then be sent to the patient.

While remaining in their car, patients will have to show ID, Medicare card and completed pathology request form to the drive-through clinic.

A staff member will then take a nasal swab from the patient.

All results will be sent to the patient’s referring doctor yet negative results will be available via SMS if a mobile number and consent are provided.

The new clinic comes after a respiratory clinic opened last month on Khartoum Road in Macquarie Park to assess people with mild to moderate respiratory symptoms as well as test and diagnose COVID-19, influenza and pneumonia cases.

The WiSE clinic, which was partly funded by the Federal Government, also allows patients to meet a GP and have a complete assessment.

The Macquarie Park walk-in clinic was a joint project between the Federal Department of Health, MQ Health, Stocklands Property Management and the Northern Sydney Primary Health Network.

Liberal Federal Member for Bennelong John Alexander said everyone in the community played a role in supporting one another during the pandemic.

“Whether that’s the community supporting one another and exercising responsible social distancing practices, or the WiSE Clinic stepping up to the plate,” Mr Alexander said.

“It’s wonderful to see everyone working together to keep our community safe.”

There are currently 67 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ryde’s local government area (LGA) according to the latest NSW Health data as of 8pm, April 25.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said there were two new cases overnight; one of the cases was a returned traveller who was in quarantine at a hotel and the other was a known contact of a COVID-19 case. Picture: Dean Lewins

Analysis of the data reveals there were 65 positive cases on April 4 meaning there has been an increase of just two cases in the area.

Earlier this month, Ryde and Macquarie Park were announced as two coronavirus hotspots where NSW Health would expand testing in a bid to reduce local community transmissions.

Ryde still remains a targeted area for increased testing.

An area is identified for further testing if there have been cases of community transmission of unknown origin, according to NSW Health.
