Bones found near Kirkham St, Beecroft

Police have sent bones found in a storm drain for forensic analysis after a two-day search in Beecroft.

A search for more bones is under way at Beecroft.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said the search started on Tuesday when skeletal remains were discovered in a road-side drain at the M2 near Castle Howard Rd about 2pm.

Ryde police started an extensive search and are continuing it today with the assistance of Police Divers, Police Rescue and the Public Order and Riot Squad.

The remains have been sent for specialist forensic examination to determine if they belong to humans or animals.

A NSW Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said a crew was dispatched to Beecroft from 10.30am today to assist the police operation.

Beecroft residents noted on social media that firefighters had lowered a pump down the side of the M2.

On Facebook, one resident said she saw several detectives leaving the scene with large evidence bags.
