Youths pulled off bus and questioned by police over Neutral Bay graffiti spree

Graffiti vandalism, illegal fishing, break-ins and RBT arrests featured on the lower north shore police blotter last week.

CAMMERAY: Three youths were pulled off a bus and questioned by police after being suspected of causing significant graffiti damage in the Neutral Bay area. At 3.30am on Sunday, the plain clothed police observed the youths walking along Military Rd and, when questioned, they said they were on their way home to Collaroy via bus. Shortly after police saw graffiti damage to a street sign located on the Ernest St overpass and decided to pursue the bus, stopping it on Sydney Rd in Balgowlah. Police spoke with the youths again and a search allegedly revealed all three had spray paint cans. Police are continuing investigations into multiple locations nearby which were damaged by graffiti.

CAMMERAY: At 8.35am on Sunday, police were conducting random breath testing on Ernest St when they stopped and spoke to a 24-year-old-male driver who stated he’d had a couple of alcoholic drinks in Surry Hills. Police tested the driver, who returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to North Sydney Police Station where he completed a breath analysis, returning a result of 0.078 grams of alcohol. The man will attend the Downing Centre Local Court early next month.

BALMORAL: Around 9pm last Thursday, police were conducting a foot patrol of Balmoral Beach near the Balmoral Baths boardwalk when they observed two men fishing. Officers asked both men to provide their fishing licences. During this conversation one of the fishermen stated he left his licence at home before admitting he didn’t have one. He was issued with a $200 fine.

KIRRIBILLI: A woman was charged with possessing a knuckle duster after police arrested her and a male companion on Sunday. The pair were seen entering a vacant lot currently under construction where they allegedly put their backpacks under a staircase before leaving. Later that night the male allegedly returned and again entered the premises. A witness called police, believing a break and enter was occurring. Police arrived a short time later and spoke with the pair before noticing the knuckle dusters nearby. Both were charged with entering enclosed land without lawful excuse and the female was also charged with possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit.

NEUTRAL BAY: At 9.10am on Saturday, police stopped a 38-year-old male driver on Ernest St for a random breath test. While speaking with the driver, police could smell liquor on his breath and he produced a positive breath test. At North Sydney Police Station he completed a breath analysis, returning a result of .081 grams of alcohol.

CROWS NEST: Police are hunting a pair of thieves who broke into a store in the early hours of January 5, stealing a quantity of jewellery. At 3.19am, a man and a woman were seen loitering around the outside of the Emporio Organico before gaining entry into the store by jemmying the lock on a side door.
