WILLOUGHBY Council has rejected any idea of merging with Mosman with one councillor describing the wealthy enclave as an “oasis of boredom”.
“All Mosman brings is a dilapidated shopping strip and traffic on Military Rd which makes Chatswood traffic look good,” he said.
“We should be using our submission to push back and say Mosman can go with the northern beaches.
“I do not want to merge with the oasis of boredom of Mosman or Lane Cove.”
His thoughts were echoed by fellow councillor Wendy Norton who said Willoughby would be taking on the area’s “crumbling assets”.
Cr Angelo Rozos argued the merger made sense as it brought together the three lower north shore areas.
“We are lower north shore residents, we do use (Mosman),” he said.
“It … would allow for integrated planning. It makes sense.”
Council passed the recommendation nine to two opposing a merger with Mosman because of its high rates; assets base concerns; and limited community connectivity between Willoughby and Mosman.
