Dozens of new seniors homes could be built near a north shore town centre as part of high-rise expansion catering for rising demand in the local area.
Aged care provider United Protestant Association has released a $117 million proposal to build a new seniors housing complex standing up to six storeys tall in Wahroonga.
The development would be split across four buildings and contain 84 independent living units, accommodating up to 120 people.
The proposal would involve the demolition of five buildings on the site, located between the Pacific Highway, Ada Ave, and Munderah St.
The development would expand the current UPA aged care facility, located within the site, which would continue to provide 43 independent units and a 39-bed residential aged care home.
If the development is approved, the total number of residents that could occupy the site would almost double to 292.
UPA, in its plans, stated the development would meet growing demand for seniors accommodation in the Ku-ring-gai local government area.
“The site, with its proximity to both transport and services, is ideal for a development of this type and scale,” the plans stated.
“The removal of a number of buildings, at-grade carparking, tennis courts and the like offers the opportunity to not only deliver the much-needed accommodation but also new, more appropriate, and better designed infrastructure.
The proposal also includes new carparking, landscaping, community facilities and a new ‘village square’.
United Protestant Association was contacted for further comment but was unable to comment at the time of publication.
The plans are due to be assessed by the Sydney North Planning Panel.
